2024 Cannabis Ballot: Vote on Initiatives
Today, several U.S. states are preparing to vote on cannabis legislation, marking a pivotal moment in the movement for cannabis reform nationwide. Notably, Florida’s Amendment 3 is the state’s first attempt at legalizing recreational cannabis, which would allow residents over 21 to purchase and possess up to three ounces. Florida’s support base, led by a coalition of advocates and businesses, hopes to sway the state toward reform, potentially adding it to the roster of recreational-use states if it garners over 60% of the vote.

The Midwestern states are also showing momentum. North Dakota and South Dakota will once again put recreational cannabis measures to voters. North Dakota’s initiative, Measure 5, would permit adults to possess up to one ounce of cannabis flower and cultivate up to three plants. Meanwhile, South Dakota’s proposal would allow residents up to six cannabis plants and two ounces of flower. Both states are hopeful, especially given North Dakota’s previous medical cannabis approval and the renewed backing by younger voter demographics.
In Arkansas, a medical cannabis expansion initiative aims to improve access by broadening the eligibility for health providers who can recommend cannabis and extending medical patient card durations to three years. If passed, these reforms could improve access for Arkansas patients, particularly in rural areas where telemedicine might expand certification access.

These votes could signal a broader shift in the U.S., with advocates aiming to boost local economies and reduce burdens on criminal justice systems. Arizona Expands Cannabis Delivery Options
In a major development for the cannabis industry, Arizona dispensaries are now permitted to offer direct-to-consumer delivery services for adult-use marijuana. Starting on November 1, 2024, state regulators have allowed vertically integrated marijuana businesses in Arizona to deliver cannabis products to recreational users. This move is expected to provide consumers with more convenient access to dispensary products, which may lead to a boost in sales for the state’s legal cannabis market as demand rises for delivery options, especially in densely populated urban areas. Arizona joins other states like California and Oregon that have expanded delivery services to increase accessibility and improve customer experience in the cannabis sector.

Meanwhile, Norwalk, Connecticut, is set to welcome its first drive-thru dispensary. The new Shangri-La location, expected to open by the end of November, will feature an eye-catching pink and purple exterior and offer convenient pre-order and drive-thru options for cannabis customers. This dispensary is part of a growing trend to enhance customer convenience and expand access to cannabis products. As the company’s fourth Connecticut location, Shangri-La’s drive-thru will serve as its flagship site, symbolizing the brand’s commitment to accessibility and a modern shopping experience.

States across the country are increasingly recognizing the value of flexible service options within the cannabis industry, both to meet customer demands and to provide legal, regulated avenues for purchasing. The combination of regulatory support for delivery and new retail formats like drive-thru services reflects the cannabis industry’s adaptation to evolving consumer expectations and local market needs.
