HEMP Welcomes Tried and Blue back to the Sunday Sessions stage

Featured this month: We’re so excited to welcome Tried and Blue back to HEMP for another Sunday Sessions event! They joined us back in January for our 2 year anniversary party, and we couldn’t be more excited to hear them play again. Tried and Blue is a three-piece Northwest Bluegrass stringband, featuring Nancy Limbaugh on mandolin, her husband Jeff on upright bass, and guitar flat picker Dennis Zelmer. We often bring along guest banjo player, Chuck Springer or other soloists. Inspired by their rich American heritage, they perform songs ranging from traditional bluegrass and newgrass favorites to original songs and even a few “bluegrassified” versions of folk, country and rock classics. With plenty of 2 and 3 part harmony and lively guitar and mandolin instrumental breaks, you are surely going to be entertained!

We’re excited to be hosting pen & ink / digital artist Akane Fujii in the front gallery space of the shop for the month of April. Pronounced Ah-kah-nay Who-jee-ee, Akane Fujii was born in Niigata Japan. Raised in Washington. Loves: animals, art, pens, food, sunny windy day, chai latte, plants, classic cars, Linoleum prints, and graphic design. Dislikes: yellow blinking left turn signals, elevators, and Styrofoam.

With their flirty fashions, clever choreography, and of course the spot-on three part harmonies, these dolls deliver a show that’ll blow your top!

This month, we’re highlight the unique and abstract photography by Erika Bartlett. Erika uses an acrylic medium and adhere’s her photos to plastic pieces for display, but is also experimenting with direct printing and custom shapes. Erika is very involved in the downtown Vancouver, WA arts district and works closely with the Vancouver Downtown Association on art installations including one that will be launched later in the month called DTVRainku.
